Reason For the Boiler Replacement

Mr W. had recently moved from the South of England to Doncaster and was having a few issues with the boiler which was currently installed in the property. They had had a few other heating companies look at the boiler due to these issues before they called us for a boiler installation quote. During the survey they stated that the boiler was banging and clattering when in use and some of the radiators didn’t get warm. We checked the system and created a plan to upgrade to a combi boiler which the customer wanted. We offered a few different options of boilers and Mr W. choose the amazing Baxi 800.

What GGB Heating Solutions Recommended?

During the survey we advised Mr W. that we could upgrade the heating and hot water system to run on a combi boiler and install the boiler in the utility room where the existing boiler was situated. Also, we advised that we needed to try and match the house bricks to patch where the existing flue was as it was a large square flue. Due to only 2 people living in this 4 bedroomed house, we also recommended installing thermostatic radiator valves to give the customer more control of the rooms which wasn’t going to be used as often. Finally due the age of the heating system and the water quality in the radiators we advised a power flush to ensure all the radiators got hot and balance the system.

The Boiler Installation

Day 1: When we first arrived, we started by protecting the customers property with dust sheets and matting for worksurfaces, then proceed to drain the heating system, remove the existing boiler and cylinder. Before we could install the new boiler, we had to patch up the giant hole left by the previous flue and drill another hole for the new flue to go through. Once all this was complete, we got started installing the new boiler. By this time, it was time to tidy round and wrap up for the day.

Day 2: Same as day one we protected the customers property with dustsheets and protective mats. We quickly started to convert the heating system to a sealed system, and re-route the condensate, hot, cold water and gas pipes to the new boiler. Once completed we replaced all 12 radiator valves with new thermostatic radiator valves, except the room where the thermostat would be installed.

Before we cleaned up for the day, we carried out all safety checks on the boiler and did another quick flush of the heating system, to remove debris, then added the Adey central heating cleaner to the system and advised the customer to run the heating over night with this cleaner in to make power flushing easier the final day. The we cleaned the areas we had been working before leaving.

Day 3: As always, we begin by protecting the customers property with dust sheets and switched the heating on. Getting the chemical cleaner working. While the heating was running, we set up the power flush machine making sure the dirty water went into a drain and connecting our cold feed to the outside tap.

Once the radiators were up to temperature, we begin isolating the radiators so we could flush them one at a time. We flushed all radiators individually until clean water was coming through while agitating them to remove the stubborn particles in the radiators. Once all the pipes and radiators were flushed, we added the Adey inhibitor to the heating system balanced the radiators and finished the central heating commissioning and completed the benchmark for the boiler.

After everything was completed, we talked the customer through how to use their new boiler and top up the pressure if needed.

That same day we completed the boiler registration with both Baxi and the local authorities.
